Final Community Meeting: Proposed Martin Road Recreation Facility
The City of Ferndale is making great strides in public engagement efforts for the proposed Martin Road Recreation Facility Project. The meetings and surveys sought public ideas about the facility's conceptual location, design, and uses. The City and design firm Neumann/Smith have worked over the last few months to develop concepts driven by community feedback of Ferndale's wants and needs.
Residents voiced priorities of site layout: ensuring safe and accessbile facilities, creating spaces for seniors, preserving the park's beautiful tree canopy, maintaining sightlines for parents with young children, and using grant and tax dollars efficiently. City Council will receive a final report that includes conceptual design, proposed uses, and a conceptual budget that supports the project's next steps pending voter input in November.
Residents are engaged in illustrating the potential use of the future facility. One area of interest is creating multi-purpose spaces to host small events, meeting spaces for seniors, a leisure area for the community, and modern changing rooms for those using the Splash Pad. Additionally, the community is in favor of providing outdoor equipment rentals to complement Martin Road Park, like the sledding hill or the planned pickleball courts.
Final Community Meeting
The City has added an additional meeting to continue the discussion and feedback. The meeting will be held in the City Hall Council Chambers on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be streamed on the City's Youtube channel.
