Permit Parking Changes in Northeast Downtown

Upcoming Changes to Permit Parking in Northeast Downtown Ferndale

Dear Permit Holder,

Beginning August 24, 2026, changes will be made to permit parking in the Northeast Quadrant of downtown Ferndale to improve availability for visitors during peak demand periods while continuing to provide options for downtown employees. Conditions for existing long-term permits will be adjusted, and a new Employee Peak Hours Permit is being introduced.

Changes to Existing Long-Term Permits

Effective August 24, monthly long-term permit parking will be prohibited after 5:00 PM on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays in the following locations:

• Lot 13 (Como's Lot)

• Lot 15 (E. Breckenridge Lot)

New Employee Peak Hours Permit Program

To provide alternative parking options during peak-demand periods, the City is introducing a new Employee Peak Hours Permit.

Permit Hours for On-Street Spaces

• Thursday, Friday, and Saturday

• 5:00 PM to 4:00 AM

Valid Locations:
• Bermuda St between E. Breckenridge St and Vester St (on-street spaces)
• E. Breckenridge St between Woodward Avenue and Bermuda St (on-street spaces)
• Lot 11 (City Hall Lot)
• Lot 1 (West Breckenridge Lot)

This new permit will cost $30, the same as the existing monthly parking permit. New signage will be installed to clearly identify the affected areas and applicable restrictions.

Why These Changes Are Being Made

The goal of these changes is to better balance the parking needs of businesses, employees, residents, and visitors in the Northeast Quadrant of downtown Ferndale. Parking availability for downtown visitors during the busiest evening periods will be increased, while parking options for downtown employees through designated peak-hours parking areas will continue to be provided.

No immediate action is required from existing permit holders. Information on when the permit will be available for purchase, along with updated maps and signage, will be shared before the changes take effect.

We appreciate your cooperation as these improvements are implemented.
