Everything You Need to Know About the August 6, 2024, Election

The 2024 August Primary Election is on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. It's not too late to request an absentee ballot. If you haven’t applied for an absentee ballot but would still like to, please visit mvic.sos.state.mi.us/AVApplication/Index. Please do not forget to sign your ballot!

Do I have to select a political party ballot for the primary?

Unlike the Presidential Primary Election, the August Primary Election only has one ballot type for each precinct. On each ballot, there are two columns under the Partisan Section: one for the Democratic Party and one for the Republican Party. If you would like to vote in the Partisan section, you must choose which column/party to vote for. Choosing candidates in both columns will invalidate the Partisan Section of your ballot. There is also a Nonpartisan Section of the ballot that all voters may participate in regardless of your choices in the Partisan Section.

Do I have to be a registered Republican or Democrat to participate in Michigan’s Primary?

No, you do not have to register with a political party. This lets any registered voter in the State of Michigan participate in the primary election.

Are there any initiatives or proposals on the 2024 August Primary ballot?

No. The City of Ferndale does not have any local ballot initiatives coinciding with the 2024 Primary Election.

What is on the ballot?
