City Council
The form of government provided for in the City Charter is the Council-Manager plan. Ferndale's Council consists of a mayor and four council members who are elected in the manner specified by Charter. Council has full power and authority to exercise all the powers conferred upon the City, except as otherwise provided by Charter. The Mayor has a vote upon all matters, questions, and propositions- the same as a council member.
About this commission
The Council constitutes the legislative and governing body of Ferndale, with power and authority to pass such ordinances and adopt such resolutions as they shall deem proper in order to exercise any or all of the powers possessed by the City.
Mayor and Council elections are held each odd-year November. At each election, the Mayor and two Council members are elected. The term of office for Mayor is two years. The term of office for each Council member is four years.
Vacancies in elected offices must be filled within thirty days pursuant to City Charter, Chapter 3, Section 9.
