How the System Works
This program is free for residents. Residents may sign up to receive alerts by text, email, app, or phone call. A Ferndale address is required to receive local alerts. Once enrolled, users can receive both Ferndale and County alerts. Each account can include several phone numbers, email addresses, and locations, making it suitable for families, multi-person households, and property owners.
By joining the program, Ferndale residents can receive emergency alerts for various events, such as fires, HAZMAT, active crimes, downed wires, water main breaks, brown water, boil advisories, emergency road/parking closures, downed trees, traffic light outages, medical emergencies, and other matters as needed.
This system will not be used for general information, event or program promotion, or other non-emergency matters.

Pilot Program Background
The City of Ferndale is pleased to be the first city in Oakland County to join the OakAlert system! This program is free for the City to participate in.
The Communications Department, with support from the City Manager’s Office and the Fire, Police, and Public Works Departments, will use it as a primary crisis communications tool, alongside other existing platforms. The system is prepared for various crisis scenarios and will provide residents and staff with a swift, efficient way to communicate.
The City is very grateful to Oakland County for keeping our community safe by including us in this very important system.
